| Ausable Chasm - One of the Adirondack wonders, Ausable Chasm, began its formation 500 million years ago when the raging water of the Ausable River began carving through the sandstone crating a large fault. Today, visitors can walk the nature trials through primeval forests, peer into the gorge, or raft down the rushing water. Scenic vistas provide different perspectives on the chasm and interpretive signs describe the local flora, faun, and wildlife. Birding is also popular; Blue Herons, Robins, and Peregrine Falcons have been known to swoop through the chasm. |
