Ausable Chasm - One of the Adirondack wonders, Ausable Chasm, began its formation 500 million years ago when the raging water of the Ausable River began carving through the sandstone crating a large fault. Today, visitors can walk the nature trials through primeval forests, peer into the gorge, or raft down the rushing water. Scenic vistas provide different perspectives on the chasm and interpretive signs describe the local flora, faun, and wildlife. Birding is also popular; Blue Herons, Robins, and Peregrine Falcons have been known to swoop through the chasm. local2

High Falls Gorge Adventure Center - View the west branch of the Ausable River under the shadow of Whiteface Mountain as it rushes through ancient granite cliffs and into deep fissures. Enjoy a self-guided tour to beautiful waterfalls, dark pools, and ancient forests. The adventure center offers half mile round trip walks, hands on nature activities, and an opportunity to pan for gemstones and fossils. Sturdy bridges and groomed walkways allow visitors to safely view stunning views of the Ausable River. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the picnic area under shady pine trees. local3
