Wichita State University, founded in 1895 as a Congregational institution, is distinguished from other state supported schools in Kansas by its urban setting. The 330-acre campus is modern and accessible and at the same time retains the flavor of the University's 107-year heritage. More than 60 pieces of sculpture by internationally known artists adorn the campus.

Old Cowtown Museum is an open air, living history museum depicting life in a Kansas cattletown from 1865 to 1880. Highlights of the 36 exhibits on the Museum's grounds include historic home tours, working blacksmith, carpentry and newspaper shops, an 1880s farm, marshal's office, law office, church, one-room schoolhouse, general store, clothing store, saloon and cowboy camp. Authentically costumed history interpreters on the grounds chat with visitors and provide a hands-on, educational experience for the whole family!

The Great Plains Nature Center is a cooperative partnership between the US Fish & Wildlife Service, Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks and City of Wichita Department of Parks and Recreation. These agencies share a common goal of providing opportunities for the public to investigate, understand and develop an appreciation for wildlife and the environment, while promoting sound stewardship of natural resources. You will enjoy seeing their educational displays in the Koch Habitat Hall or taking a hike on the 2-mile paved trail system in Chisholm Creek Park. Groups are welcome; contact them to schedule your visit.

When you visit Botanica ' The Wichita Gardens you will enjoy 24 themed gardens such as the Butterfly Garden, Shakespeare Garden, Rose and Wildflower Garden and the new award winning Sally Stone Sensory Garden. Visit Botanica's Butterfly House and stroll among hundreds of free-flight butterflies within this 2,800 square foot, net-covered enclosure. Botanica offers workshops and field trips throughout the year. Every Wednesday at 12:15 pm a free lecture on a variety of horticultural and related topics is presented.
