| Anza - Borrego Desert State Park - With 600,000 acres and endless canyons, ancient pictographs, and majestic cacti, the Anza - Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in the contiguous United States and voted the number one California state park by National Geographic. The area was first discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Batiste de Anza in 1774. Today, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of activities, including hiking among the hundreds of miles of gorgeous vistas, biking, auto touring, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and birding. You can even bring or rent a four wheel drive vehicle and ATVs and enjoy the scenic views from the dirt roads. The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park also offers interpretive programs to visitors, including historical talks, nature walks, campfires, and Junior Ranger programs. |

| Visit Julian, California - Julian is an historic gold mining town located just west of Borrego Springs. Julian is unique from the other California mountain retreats because it truly has four seasons, with wildflowers in the spring, hiking in the summer, a harvest of apples in the fall, and snowfall in winter. Specialty shops line the streets, the attractions are unique, and world-class restaurants and cafes await you! Enjoy a carriage ride, visit an art gallery, or tour one of Julian's original gold mines. There is also a pioneer museum, a local theatre, and several wineries nearby offering tastings and tours. Get away from the hectic rush of city life and discover the charms of Julian! |
