Avenue of the Giants
Avenue of the Giants - This thirty-one-mile stretch of Highway 101 takes you through some of the most dramatic scenery in Northern California. Drive along the Avenue of the Giants to see the enormous trees in the 500 mile redwood belt. Surrounded on both sides by the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, with its largest remaining stand of old-growth redwoods in the world, the Avenue cuts through 51,222 acres of redwood groves. With a number of enchanting towns along the way, you'll find plenty of reasons to stop for shopping, lunch, or activities like fishing, river rafting, bike riding, swimming, and hiking. Watch for wildlife or just relax beneath the shade of these incredible towering trees. |

Victorian Ferndale, California
Victorian Village of Ferndale - Step back in time when you wander the streets of Ferndale, a beautifully preserved Victorian town. In fact, it was dubbed "the best preserved Victorian village in California," by the Los Angeles Times for its exquisite architecture, antique shops, and old-fashioned mercantile stores. This delightful town offers museums, shops, historic homes, and boating tours of the Eel River. The entire village is considered a California Historical Landmark, something the villagers celebrate with pride during their many annual events, such as the Christmas Lighted Tractor Parade and Humboldt County Fair. |

Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Humboldt Redwoods State Park - This largest of California's state parks is home to some of the most impressive trees you'll see anywhere -- the famous redwoods! These ancient, old-growth trees can grow to be over 300 feet tall. Visit Rockefeller Forest to see the park's largest stand of massive trees, then continue to explore the 100-plus miles of hiking and horseback riding trails, nature trails, and bike trails. Visit Founders Grove, then take a scenic drive along the Avenue of the Giants to Mattole Road through the Rockefeller Forest. You can enjoy swimming, fishing, and boating on the Eel River, or stop in at the Visitor's Center to learn more about redwoods and what makes them so special. |

Trinidad Cove, California
Trinidad Cove - The western-most city in California is also one of the oldest cities in the state -- and a fabulous place to explore! Whether you come for the lighthouses, the salmon, lingcod, bottom fish, rock fish, and surf fishing, or the chance to relax on Indian Beach, you'll find just what you're looking for at Trinidad Cove. Take part in a guided kayak tour, watching for sea lions and starfish, or follow the Trinidad Head trail to the overlook to watch for migrating grey whales. Trinidad Cove offers a number of unique boutiques and gift shops, excellent restaurants, and a pair of lighthouses: Trinidad Head (built in 1871) and Trinidad Memorial (opened in 1949). |
