Join in the ATV Fun
|
In the warmer months, visitors can hike through the North Maine Woods, a collection of private land that's open for hiking, backpacking, and fishing. Aroostook County has ATV riding trails, hunting areas, hiking paths, biking trails, boating areas, and plenty of opportunities for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. You can hike the slopes at the Big Rock Ski Area, do some fishing in the St. John and the Allagash rivers, or join the leaf-peepers in viewing the blazing fall foliage. And right here in Neil E. Michaud Campground you can enjoy a game of basketball, volleyball, badminton, or horseshoes, plus snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in the winter. |
| Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy a wide range of choices, whether they want to ski or snow-shoe. At the Big Rock Ski Area you'll find downhill slopes that range from advanced to beginner, plus cross-country ski and snow-shoeing trails. For more cross-country skiing information, contact the Nordic Heritage Ski Center. The Quoggy Jo Ski Club specializes in alpine skiing and can connect you with a ski school, race, or whatever skiing event you're looking for. Our area also boasts a number of premium snowmobile trails. |

Plenty of Family Activities
|
Each year in mid July, Aroostook County hosts the Potato Blossom Festival, an event that celebrates the potato's place as one of our region's best crops. Take in its famous parade, the crowning of the Maine Potato Queen, the potato-picking contest, and the family activities in Fort Fairfield. In July we also host the annual County Blue-grass Festival and the Northern Maine Fair, followed in October by the Fall Arts, Crafts, and Antique Fair. At the end of June we commemorate historic French culture during the Acadian Festival, and when snow is on the ground in early March, visitors can view the excitement of the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race. |
