| The Amana Colonies - 150 years ago, a group of people left Germany for Buffalo New York, seeking religious freedom. In time, their travels brought them to the rich land of Eastern Iowa. Calling themselves the Amana, these peace-loving people created a communal society that focuses on a traditional way of life. You can visit the seven Amana colony villages today, admiring their craftsmanship and skill. Purchase craft products like wine, hand-made furniture, candles, baskets, candy, woolen goods, quilts, and much more. Enjoy a traditional meal at one of the inns or the restaurant, then participate in an artists studio tour or a group excursion. |

| Iowa City - Set in the rolling hills and forests of Eastern Iowa, lovely Iowa City is a charming place to explore. This friendly, accessible city is home to excellent health-care facilities, art museums, theaters, and a nationally recognized writer's workshop. As the setting for the University of Iowa, this is also a fabulous place to catch a sporting event or lecture. Take a walking tour of the city, admiring the historic buildings, then take in the Iowa City Jazz Festival or the annual Freedom Festival. You can watch a play, go golfing on an 18-hole course, spend some time ice skating, or do some rowing on the beautiful Iowa River. This is also an incredible spot for shopping, fine dining, and antique hunting. |

View his presidential papers, artifacts from his life, photos, and American History displays at the Presidential Library, then tour his birthplace cottage and the blacksmith's shop and Quaker meeting house that are also on display. Learn about his out-going wife, Lou Henry Hoover, and see exhibits on topics like Christmas at the White House, Hollywood Cowboys, life along the Mississippi River, and old-fashioned toys. |
