Fishberry Campground is near these great attractions in the Valentine, Nebraska area!

Smith Falls State Park - Created where a small, spring-fed creek tumbles about 70 feet over a rock ledge to the Niobrara Valley below, Smith Falls is Nebraska's highest waterfall. During the last two decades, canoeists have discovered the Niobrara River and Smith Falls, but Nebraska's highest waterfall remained largely unseen by the general public until 1996 when an old historic bridge was refurbished and placed across the river allowing foot access to the falls. Smith Falls is more than just a tourist attraction; it is a naturally occurring biological museum. Visitors will see some of the last remaining spruce and birch forest in the state as well as a colony of unique trees at the foot of the falls including a hybrid of quaking aspen, a northern species and big-toothed aspen, an eastern species. local1

Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge - Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is 19,131 acres in size and is located 4 miles east of the city of Valentine along the Niobrara River. The Refuge offers many activities for visitors. Bison, elk, deer, and prairie dogs can be seen along the wildlife drive at all times of the year. Interpretive displays at the visitor center describe the history and ecology of the area. Hiking trails lead to Fort Falls and, for the more adventurous, into the Niobrara River Wilderness Area. Canoeing or tubing down the Niobrara National Scenic River is also a popular activity on the Refuge. local2

Merritt Reservoir - The Merritt Reservoir is a feature of the Ainsworth Unit, Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Program, and is on the Snake River 14 miles upstream from the confluence of the Snake and Niobrara Rivers. Almost any activity involving water sports can be enjoyed in and around Merritt Reservoir's 72,900 acre-feet of water. Seventy three miles of tree lined shore provide swimming, picnicking, pan and game fishing; species include walleye, muskie, largemouth bass, crappie and yellow perch. Whether you plan to roam the prairie or walk in peaceful solitude along miles of white sandy beaches, the area will meet your every need. Water skiers and sail boaters find the reservoir a haven, and ice fishing remains a popular wintertime sport. local3
