SEDALIA HIGHLIGHTS
From the moment you first step into our city, you'll feel the richness of our heritage. Founded in 1860, Sedalia began as a rough frontier town in the new west. Our Historic District features Missouri's first Carnegie Library, antique shops and quaint stores. You may also tour an authentic Missouri "castle", Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site. In it's early years, Sedalia's economy was built on the railroad. Today, the country's largest rail to trail conversion, the Katy Trail State Park, winds through town. The Missouri State Fairgrounds and its 396 acres of exhibit areas, and historic facilities have become one of the hallmarks of Sedalia. Besides offering one of the largest ten day fairs in America, the fairgrounds also hosts many other events throughout the year...livestock shows, camping events, sporting events, horse and car races and truck pulls. Come celebrate the birth of ragtime with us at the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival or experience life in the old west during rawhide Days. Whether you are coming for festivals or fairs, for history or hospitality, we look forward to your visit and we "Welcome you Back to Sedalia."
