PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
|
Regardless of the season, there is something for every photographer. There are lakes, streams, waterfalls, lighthouses, all of which are accessible any season. There are local festivals ranging from car shows to blueberry festivals to logging contests and lumberjack breakfasts. Scenic roads are plentiful; get a county road map and go out 'in the bush' where you could encounter moose, bear or deer. Just don't forget the camera, wherever you go!

BIRD WATCHING:
|
Clementz's Northcountry Campground and Cabins hosts a wide variety of birds. In addition to the more common birds, during the winter months at our feeders you will see snow buntings, gray jays, pine grosbeaks. We do not see these birds until winter arrives. In the spring and summer months, we have all the common yard birds and occasionally we have Indigo buntings and Scarlet Tanagers. Once we had a Rufus hummingbird at a feeder! We always have ruby throated hummers during the late spring, summer and early fall. We provide a deck for our adult guests to set and watch the birds at the feeders and in the baths. There is a list in our lobby of all the birds we have seen at our feeders; the list is TOO long to include here.
Northcountry Campground and Cabins is about 40 minutes from the Seney Wildlife refuge where you will find eagles, osprey, loons, swans, otters and other wildlife. Take a canoe trip through the refuge, ride a bike through, hike through or drive through. 40 minutes in the other direction will take you to the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory which is along a migratory path for many types of birds on the shore of Lake Superior.

SNOWMOBILING
|
The Newberry Area hosts some of the best snowmobiling trails within the United States. Our area was ranked within the top 10 choices of places to snowmobile within the U.S. The Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association maintains and grooms over 150 miles of trail The trail system in the U.P. is such that you can ride from one end of the U.P. (Upper Peninsula) to the other end. Our average annual snowfall is at 170 inches (depending on the weather!). If you don't own a snowmobile, there a plenty of places across the Eastern U.P. to rent one! Even though we're no longer open thru the winter, come on up and stay at one of the many motels or resorts in the area!

TRAILS
|
If a nature walk is your choice of travel, one of the best known trails within the U.S. crosses a portion of the Eastern U.P! It is the North Country Trail. There are also hiking/walking opportunities in the Tahquamenon Falls State Park system. You can take a 4 mile hike from the Upper Tahquamenon Falls to the Lower Tahquamenon Falls. Clementz's Northcountry Campground & Cabins also has a very nice nature trail through our 40 acre woods. One loop is about 7/10ths of a mile and the 2nd loop adds about another 5/10ths to that.
