Watkins Glen State Park - One of the most visited parks in New York State,
Watkins Glen State Park features a gorge carved out by glaciers, creating 19
waterfalls and 300-foot shale and sandstone cliffs. You can follow the
gorge on foot trails with nearly 800 stone steps going over and under
waterfalls, through tunnels and over bridges. The main waterfall, Cavern
Cascade, marks the halfway point of the trail. The combination of natural
beauty and manmade stonework results in an amazingly surreal setting. The
park includes bird watching and nature viewing opportunities, as well as
large picnic areas and a swimming pool. The park is open year-round. The
gorge trail is open from mid-May to November.
