No matter what beach community you choose, you'll find the soothing sound of surf, plenty of sunshine, plus the unique and charming atmosphere of a seaside town. The beaches near Wilmington are popular with fishermen because of the many different piers, flourishing fishing spots and great waters for recreational activities. You can tour Topsail Island with its 26 miles of white sands or visit Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach on the New Hanover coast.
Jacksonville, North Carolina
Jacksonville - This beach town in Onslow County is filled with maritime history and a thriving culture. Named in 1842 for President Andrew Jackson, this vibrant city is home to the largest Marine force in the world. With its pleasant weather, sunny skies, and white sand beaches, this is a natural vacation spot. In the nearby area you'll find farms, golf courses, excellent restaurants, antique shops, and opportunities for scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, and more. Choose between public courses like the 18 hole Paradise Point Golf Course with over 5,865 yards and a par of 70 and the Paradise Point Golf Course, Gold Course, both located at Camp Lejeune. You can visit the Rock Creek Course at the Rock Creek Country Club, play a round of 18 at the North Shore Country Club, or visit Swansboro's Silver Creek Course with its 6,526 yards and par of 72. There are also several outstanding 9-hole courses located within a 16 mile drive of the Jacksonville town center.
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
Camp Lejeune - For the past 65 years, this historic camp has served as the home for the II Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and other combat units and support commands. The camp's primary mission is to maintain combat-ready units, offer training and schools for military personnel, and prepare marines for missions abroad. The 156,000-acre camp includes eleven miles of beach, 78 live fire ranges, and 98 maneuver areas.
