| Spend some time fishing for deep water fish like sailfish, marlin, tuna, dolphin, and wahoo or for red snapper, king, ling, and jack fish. You can arrange to ship out on a fishing charter, take a boating trip across the bay, or just spend some time swimming in our warm southern waters. Bird watchers will love touring through the 56688 acres of Matagorda Island wildlife management area, a great spot for wildlife viewing and enjoying the views of the barrier islands. Look for rare species like the Red-necked Grebe and Swainson's Warbler. At Mustang Island State Park, you'll find great water sports and five miles of beach, plus areas for hiking and biking. |

| Kayaking on the Lower Colorado River is a popular past-time in Matagorda County. You can watch for sandhill cranes and other species while you float down-river at a relaxing pace. Scuba diving is another fantastic way to explore the area, viewing the fish and other sea creatures that make their homes on oil-rigs and wrecks. Diving is a year round sport in this area, where water temperatures vary from 65°F in winter to 84°F in summer. In spring, summer, and fall, the warmth of the water is absolutely luxurious!
